Cafes branded as “work cafes” are opening again around the Mapo, Seongsu, and Hannam neighborhoods of Seoul. Owners tend to share the same house rules: no phone calls, earphones required for video, and roughly one hour per seat.

The trend is read as a response to “remote-work fatigue” that spread on social media, which lifted demand for quiet spaces suited to solo focus. Some owners also note the risk in the model, since tables turn over slowly.

Worth checking before you go

  • Confirm opening hours and the seating policy on the cafe’s social media.
  • If you need to take calls, pick a shop with a separate booth.
  • Many shops post a suggested stay time per drink.
